Communicable Disease Prevention Plan

Screening and Assessment

  • The practitioner will use the self assessment tool found at https://bc.thrive.health/covid19/en daily and before any shift. The practitioner commits to cancelling all sessions if symptoms arise, as well as reporting to 811 and getting tested as necessary, within the PHO guidelines. The practitioner commits to staying current with regulations and guidelines brought forth by the PHO and implementing these within the clinic.
  • Patients will receive a mandatory ‘Communicable Disease Prevention Assessment’ before their appointment. If they develop any symptoms prior to their appointment, they are required to inform their practitioner and may be required to reschedule their appointment.
  • Patients with higher risk profiles and/or weakened immune systems may consider postponing their treatment, or requesting the first appointment of the day.
  • The therapist and patient must agree that the therapeutic benefit outweighs the potential risk of receiving treatment, including viral transmission.

Physical Distancing

  • Patients are asked not to arrive early to minimize contact with others.
  • Patients are asked not to be accompanied to their appointment if this is not a necessity. This does not apply to minors or those requiring mobility assistance.
  • Physical distancing will be maintained as best as possible within the practice setting.
    • Physical distancing will be maintained as best as possible during the verbal assessment portion of the appointment.
    • Physical distancing will not be possible during manual assessment and treatment.

Hygiene Protocols

  • Every patient is required to wash their hands or use approved sanitizer (provided) upon entering the clinic.
  • Patient and practitioner are required to wear a mask (surgical mask preferred) during the entirety of treatment (PHO requires masks in all public indoor settings for individuals aged 5+). If a patient arrives without a mask, one can be provided for them.
  • At minimum the practitioner will wash hands and forearms with soap before and after every patient.
  • Hard surfaces will be sanitized between every treatment using approved surface cleaner (this includes chairs, door knobs, counters, bathroom, lotion/cream bottle, iPad, etc)
  • The treatment room will be aired out via an open window in the treatment room as well as by an air filter between patients.
  • Hand-washing protocols are posted in the bathroom near sink.
  • The treatment table and pillows are covered in vinyl, and sanitized using an approved cleaner between every treatment.
  • Personal water bottles are recommended if you require water during your appointment.
  • Tissues are available at reception, in the treatment room, as well as in the washroom to prevent face touching.
  • Linens are single use only and washed at high temperature between patients.
  • Cash is accepted but not preferred at this time. Receipts can be printed but an emailed receipt is preferred.

Communication and Consent

  • Patients will be sent a Communicable Disease Prevention Screening prior to their appointment.
  • Patients are informed and consent to the fact that physical distancing is not possible during hands on assessment and treatment, and are aware of the harm reduction approach that is implemented (Communicable Disease Prevention Plan).
  • This document can be accessed and read by patients online (at formamassagetherapy.com) or in person
  • If a patient presents COVID-19 symptoms within the usual cancellation timeframe (24hrs), the cancellation fee will be waived.
  • If a patient tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days after the session, they agree they will notify the practitioner as soon as possible.
